July 2026 Events

There is still time to sign up for our summer reading program if you haven’t been able to yet! Our program is open to all ages, so the whole family can join in and earn amazing locally donated prizes. Kids and teens (under 18) can pick out a free book at registration thanks to a generous donation from the Shelby Optimist Club! Seneca Foods Foundation and the Friends of the Hart Area Public Library are also top sponsors of our program this year. Our annual picnic with yard games will be held on Thursday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m. for participants and their families.

On Monday, July 6th, the ODC Network will host “Dinosaurs of Today” an animal program about dinosaur relatives and their neighbors at three of the Oceana County libraries. The Hart Library program will be held at 2pm in the Hart Community Center. Pentwater District Library is at 11 a.m. and Shelby Area District Library is at 4:30 p.m.

Miss Barbara and friends will be back for two more special Music and Learn story times on July 10th and July 24th at 11 a.m. Preschool story time with Ms. Susie will be held on all other Fridays also at 11am. Additionally, join us for a special evening story time on July 16, at 6:30 p.m. about volcano eruptions!

The free basic personal finance class offered by Bob Gray is back, this time in Spanish. It will be held on July 9, 16, and 23rd from 6:30-8pm. Please register.

Saturday Shenanigans is a new joint 4-H and library program recommended for children ages 5–9 and their families. Try out the fun on Saturday, July 11 at 10 a.m. and find out what is so special about flowers (and take them apart!). On Saturday, July 25th learn about mammals and see their skins and skulls! This program is held outside the library, weather permitting, no registration required.

We are also offering two scavenger hunts! MiLibrary Quest for teens and tweens is an online quest, get started at mi.gov/MiLibraryQuest. In collaboration with the Pentwater District Library and Pentwater Historical Society, we have a special scavenger hunt for children and teens to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary!

On Thursday, July 23 the monthly adult craft (string art) will be held at 2 p.m. (registration required). Additionally, simple weekly drop-in crafts and activities run through the end of July, with a different activity offered each week.
